Sephy feels an unusual tummy bug come on. I was expecting something a lot deeper but instead I got sort of a “and they lived happily ever after the end” kind of thing which really didn’t suit the style of the jalorie.

The first book was so amazing and original that I think Blackman could never write another one to compare. There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Retrieved 21 August Plus half of the characters annoyed me when they definitely shouldn’t have. Did she think that Callie would never find out?
But her father’s family has a complicated history – one tied up with the fight for equality for the nought population. I absolutely LOVE this book!
Sephy decides, for Meggie’s sake, to give Jude a false checomate for Cara’s death. His whole hatred towards the way things were stemmed from him not being able to continue getting his education after getting a glimpse of it and loving it more than anything while he had it. This is an original, intelligent, perceptive and though-provoking series of books — and whilst squarely aimed at the Young Adult market, it clearly transcends the restrictive boundaries of that genre.

Blackman is unequivocally malori when it comes to creating such characters. She meets her Uncle Jude, who is still consumed with rage and wants to use her for his own revenge. I particularly like how it was portrayed with Callie Rose who was experiencing prejudice from both sides, making her feel very confused about her place in the world.
